Startup MVP validation checklist
This startup MVP validation checklist helps founders turn a rough idea into a clear customer, assumption, test, signal and next decision.
One idea. One risk. One next move.
Use the checklist before you choose an MVP method or talk yourself into building too much.
Checklist
Work through the steps in order. The goal is a readable validation sprint, not a bigger planning document.
Define the customer
Write one narrow customer group, the moment when the problem happens and what they already do instead.
Name the risky assumption
Choose the one belief that makes the idea weak if it is false. Do not test five assumptions at once.
Choose the MVP method
Match the assumption to a method: Fake Door for demand, Concierge for workflow, Wizard of Oz for experience, Single Feature for behavior, or a landing page test for offer clarity.
Pick the signal
Decide what evidence counts before you start. Useful signals include booked calls, waitlist joins, repeat use, pre-orders, payment intent or repeated customer language.
Set the time box
Choose a short test window. A validation sprint should produce a decision, not a permanent detour.
Decide the next move
Before the test starts, define what makes you continue, change, pause or stop.
Practice before you spend
If the idea still feels fuzzy, use F/MS Startup Game to rehearse founder decisions with PlayPal before turning the checklist into a real-world test.
